Who runs Mobile Sales App

The sectors where this one does the most work. Each has its own page.

Who inside a company actually uses the mobile app?

More people than the name suggests. Sales reps take orders in front of the customer, van sellers sell and collect cash from the vehicle, drivers close deliveries at the client's door, warehouse staff receive and count with a scanner, and collectors take payments and print a receipt.

  • Sales rep

Checks stock and pricing, sees the customer's balance, creates the order on the spot.

  • Van seller

Sells from stock loaded on the vehicle and collects cash against it.

  • Driver

Works through the trip and closes each delivery at the client site.

  • Storekeeper

Receives, delivers and counts stock using barcode scanning.

  • Collector

Takes the payment, prints the receipt, and the accounts update behind it.

What changes about the conversation with the customer?

It stops running on promises. When the rep can see availability and the state of the customer's account while standing in the shop, the order is confirmed there, instead of being confirmed later by somebody in the office who then has to call back about a shortage or a credit hold.

How are delivery trips managed?

A trip is created with its deliveries and a driver assigned to it. The driver works through the list and confirms each delivery at the client site, so the delivery is closed there rather than the next morning when the paperwork comes back to the office and somebody has time to enter it.

What does the end of the day look like compared with paper?

Paper days end with data entry. Somebody gathers order pads, delivery notes, receipt books and a cash bag and types them in while the office waits. With the app those records were created during the day as things happened, so the evening becomes a check rather than an entry job.

End of day taskOn paperWith the app
Orders takenTyped in from pads that eveningIn the system from the moment they were agreed
DeliveriesNotes returned, matched, then enteredClosed at the client site
Cash collectedCounted against a receipt bookRecorded per receipt as it was taken
Stock on the vehicleCounted and reconciled by handTracked as its own location through the day
Visits madeReported verbally, if askedRecorded against the customer with the outcome

Can you plan routes rather than react to them?

Yes. Visits can be scheduled per customer and per rep, and the app follows that plan with check ins along the way. What comes back is the difference between the plan and the day: which visits happened, which were missed, and which produced no order.

What does it take to make this work in practice?

Company devices, a short training session, and a decision about what happens offline. The app keeps working without a signal and syncs when the connection returns, which covers basements and rural routes. A team that never comes back into coverage will still be working from an older picture of stock.
