Essential ERP modules for grocery stores & supermarkets

Supermarkets need fast, automated tools to manage stock, pricing, and sales. These are the modules that carry most of that load.

Shop worker checking stock on a laptop in a store room

Thousands of SKUs, and the short-dated ones move first or not at all.

We carry thousands of items. Who decides what to reorder?

Reorder levels are set per item and per branch, and purchase suggestions come from real stock positions rather than from somebody walking the aisles with a notepad. Buyers spend their day on the lines that need judgement instead of the ones that only need topping up.

  • Thresholds per branch

The reorder level for a store in one town is rarely the right level for another.

  • Cases and pieces

Units of measure and packing are defined, so a case of twelve is not counted as one item.

  • Bulk loading

Thousands of SKUs can be brought in and updated from structured spreadsheets rather than typed.

How do we cut what we throw away?

Batch and expiry tracking runs through receiving and picking, so stock rotates by expiry date rather than by whatever sits nearest the front of the shelf. Short-dated items can be found while a markdown still recovers part of the cost.

A supplier offers a promotion. How do we know we are not losing money on it?

Promotional prices are set centrally and margin is visible against the real cost of the stock you hold, including what the supplier deal actually delivered. You can see before the promotion runs whether it works, and afterwards whether the extra volume paid for the lower price.

How do we compare two branches honestly?

Sales, margin and stock positions report per branch and roll up to the group. A store with strong revenue and weak margin looks nothing like one with the reverse, and a group average hides both of them behind a comfortable middle number.

Is a loyalty programme worth running?

It depends on whether you use what it tells you. Points and tiers are set up inside the same system that runs the sale, and redemption happens at the till. The real value is the purchase history sitting behind it rather than the discount at the front.

Where does shrinkage actually come from?

In most stores it is a mix of expiry, damage, mis-keyed receiving and theft, and the split stays unknowable until movements are recorded properly. Counting by item and posting adjustments with a reason is what turns one uncomfortable total into something you can act on.

  • Expiry and damage

Visible ahead of time if batches are recorded when goods are received.

  • Receiving errors

A case booked in as a piece is a loss nobody sees until the next count.

  • Price and discount mistakes

Central price lists remove one of the most common causes at the till.

  • The unexplained difference

What is left once the others are accounted for is the number worth investigating.
